That acceleration in pace — impossible to verify until experts get beyond the limited access to North Korean facilities that ended years ago — explains why President Trump and his aides fear they are running out of time. For years, American presidents decided that each incremental improvement in the North’s program — another nuclear test, a new variant of a missile — was worrisome, but not worth a confrontation that could spill into open conflict.

They have "ramped up" production recently.
They have at least 4 plutonium producing reactors.
Who knows how many centrifuges they have.

It happened when the U.S. policy became "strategic patience".

To be completly honest the seeds that lead to that policy were planted by Eisenhower and watered by each subsequent President, until now.

The other point is they have no long range icbm to put them on. Farthest they can go is Japan.

Their 3 stage ICBM has been successfully launched (tested). 
It's the last 2 single-stage Scuds that blew up... gee, I wonder how that happened???

One what?  They have 20 nuclear devices.  They have a large number of Scuds.  They have an ICBM. 
They are working on a miniature warhead. They are having a problem with their "Polaris" type missile.

Worry about india or pakistan who are more likely to do some dumbass nuke shit
