Gunman opens fire at President Duterte's palace in Philippines

A GUNMAN has opened for at the Philippines Presidential Palace – home to strongman leader Rodrigo Duterte.

The Presidential Security Group (PSG) is reportedly investigating the incident that happened inside Malacañang Park – the official residence and workplace of the President.
An officer was left injured after being shot at in the PSG Complex in the capital of Manila, although no one else was hurt.

Local reports have said the country's strongman leader Rodrigo Duterte was not in the Palace at the time.

Presidential Security Group spokesman, Mike Aquino, confirmed the shocking incident but provided no further details.
President Duterte has become incredibly controversial for his violent drug purges in the Philippines.

Vigilante gangs have been given free reign to roam the streets hunting down suspected narcotics users and sellers in a bid to rid south-east Asian the country of its drug dependency problem.

Duterte – dubbed "The Punisher" – won power and legions of fans in the Philippines for his approach, but has also invited international condemnation for his brutality.
